Instructions

How to Load the Sandpaper

1. Unlock the clamps: Lift and release the spring-loaded paper clamping levers located on the front and back of the sander base.

2. Insert the first edge: Slide one end of the 1/3 sheet abrasive paper (93 x 228 mm) under the front or back clamp and snap the lever down to lock it.

3. Tighten and clamp the second edge: Pull the paper taut across the sponge/aluminum pad and secure the opposite end under the second clamp.

4. Punch extraction holes: If your paper isn't pre-punched, press the included punch plate accessory against the abrasive sheet to align and pierce the dust-extraction holes with the base plate.

How to Attach the Dust Box 1. Slide on the dust box: Align the nozzle of the included plastic dust box or dust bag with the exhaust port at the rear of the sander and push it firmly into place.

2. Empty regularly: Pull the dust box off periodically during use to dump accumulated dust and maintain suction efficiency.

How to Operate the Sander 1. Connect power: Plug the 2.0-meter power cord into a matching 230V AC mains outlet.

2. Position the pad flat: Rest the entire sanding surface flat against your workpiece before turning the tool on; never start the sander while it is lifted off the surface.

3. Power on: Grasp the rubberised soft grip and squeeze the 2-finger trigger switch. Press the lock-on button if you are doing continuous sanding.

4. Guide without heavy pressure: Let the 190W motor and 11,000 OPM action do the work. Do not bear down hard with your body weight—excessive downward force bogs down the orbital action and wears out the finish unevenly.

5. Turn off: Release the trigger (and disengage the lock-on button if engaged), wait for the pad to come to a complete stop, and lift the sander away from the material.

Safety Steps

Always wear safety goggles, heavy-duty work gloves, ear protection, and a dust mask or respirator.

Tips

  • Attach and Punch Paper Correctly: Use 93 x 228mm abrasive paper (or cut a standard sheet into thirds). Secure it tightly using the spring-lever clamping system at both ends. Always use the included punch plate to pierce the dust extraction holes into your sandpaper so the vacuum system doesn't clog.
  • Let the Tool Do the Work: Guide the sander with light, steady hand pressure rather than bearing down hard. Excessive downward force bogs down the 190W motor, increases vibration, and wears out the sponge pad prematurely.
  • Move with the Grain: Unlike random orbital sanders that leave circular swirl marks, a 1/3-sheet orbital sander leaves linear scratch patterns. Always move the sander parallel to the wood grain to keep any micro-scratches invisible under stain or clear coat.
  • Manage Dust Extraction: Empty the included dust box or bag frequently during use. For heavy-duty jobs, hook the dust port directly up to a Makita or compatible shop vacuum for cleaner air and longer sandpaper life.
  • Work Right into Corners: The squared-off aluminum pad design allows you to sand right up against 90-degree internal corners and wall edges where round-pad sanders cannot reach.
